Matteo Mazzola

None can fight the tide forever.

I am now working as AI Engineer at Glassform.ai, applying Artificial Intelligence in the optimization of the hollow glass production.

I previously worked as a Data Scientist at spindoxlabs, the R&D lab of SPINDOX, on EU-funded research projects spanning computer vision, NLP and generative AI.

Throughout my career, I was interested in different fields which had AI in common; For my master thesis, I worked with the university of Milano Bicocca on a publication about measuring the psychological distress through blog contents in the COVID19 era. I’ve also been involved with Istituto Dalle Molle di Studi sull’Intelligenza Artificiale on evaluating and grounding the response of LLM in critical domains, and I worked in multiple occasions with FBK, in projects that range from computer vision to data engineering platforms.

Research

I have done research in a heterogeneous set of topics: NLP on the mental health domain (SD), AI and Large Language Models assessment (IDSIA) and industry optimization (PCS).

tweet2graph is a library that lets you easily import tweets directly into a graph structure (it powered my master thesis).

I’m an avid Magic:the Gathering player, and I’ve won Paupergeddon three times: Milano 2020 with Atog Shift, Milano 2022 with Eggs Tron, and Lecco 2023 with Altar Tron — 600+ players, the largest Pauper tournament ever held at the time, which Corriere dello Sport covered as the biggest Pauper tournament in the world. I also occasionaly write for Pauperwave on various topics, and I’ve been featured in a Bojuka Pod episode and other podcasts. My results are on MtgGoldfish.
I really like to read, here are my reading lists, which I sometimes forget to update; my plan is to read a book a month.
I was a semi-professional 400 hs athlete, and I am still holding the provincial record for the fastest 400hs run in Promesse category (52.58, top 1% in Italy at that time), which awarded me a third place in the national final in 2016; now I mostly cycle and lift heavy weights.
